This is an unusually clear view of the crater. One can see the second level overlook, and the center of the crater, which can be seen looking through telescopes. The Center of the site is actually an exploratory drill site that engineers caused as a result of searching for the meteorite, which of course was never found, because it was burnt or destroyed before it hit the ground. The Crater was formed by the impact of the explosion of the crater before it actually hit, or so it was told to us.

Girl tourist sitting on the ledge of Meteor Crater, this is looking towards the right of the Crater and one can still see the center where the exploratory drilling was done by Beringer and the engineers.
An interesting note that the Beringer family still OWNS Meteor Crater.
The analogy,, and it hard to believe is like Luray Caverns is privately owned too. I think it is amazing that family/corporation can own a natural landmark based on the old "day" laws of mining claims.. there must be some legal term for that. anyway
I put of the National Geographic page also,, because it is a world natural phenomena.
